We can regard that almost every construction that claims itself as a hypermedia system, follows in one or another way the basic hypermedia model which we have presented in previous the section. While the hypermedia concept became popular, many additions and extensions have been proposed as enrichments and enhancements to basic hypermedia model. Many of these additions and extensions were fundamental features of systems they have introduced them (e.g. graphical browsers in Notecards, Halasz et al 1987, or bi-directional Links in Intermedia Meyrowitz, 1986), and they compose integral and defining features of today's hypermedia technology. For example, Frank Halasz has put forward the view that a true hypermedia system should include a graphic representation of network structure in its User Interface (Nielsen, 1990). We use the term "basic aspects" to characterise the extensions to basic hypermedia model. In this section we will try to identify basic aspects of hypermedia, and to allocate them among the basic hypermedia model. Our intention is to provide a conceptual framework which will allow us to have a more complete and realistic study of current hypermedia technology. Furthermore, to identify hypemedia aspects and study the interrelations between them will help to acquire deep understanding of current hypermedia. We will study the fundamental dimensions of hypermedia like target task domain, scope, authoring vs. browsing, extendibility and basic aspects such as, adaptive Nodes, composites, Anchors, virtual and computed links, bidirectional and multi-destination links,span-to-span links, attached procedures, organisational links, structure, Navigation, graphical browsers, guided tours, paths, metaphors, Searching, user interface. The discrepancy between fundamental dimensions and basic aspects of hypermedia is that fundamental dimensions determines the general guide-lines for the development of a hypermedia system, while basic aspects are the result of the development.
We have identify fundamental dimensions and basic aspects of hypermedia. With the figure we are trying to present a more complete and realistic conceptual framework for studying hypermedia. It is more realistic and complete because addresses not only aspects of basic hypermedia model, but also aspects that have been district developed to it. Additionally, we don't just enumerate hypermedia aspects, but we allocate them among basic hypermedia model and attempt to identify interrelations between them.
